You can use the RCA Universal remote to operate multiple devices including TVs, Blu-ray players, and AV receivers, eliminating the need for several different remote controls. The RCA remote is compatible with all home theater equipment and devices. The RCA Universal remote lets you use just one remote to control multiple devices at the same time. RCA universal remotes can be used with any device in your home theater by programming them with each device individually.

Make sure all the cables are connected and all the components are turned on before we begin. Next, check that the remote’s batteries are functioning.

Automatic RCA Universal Remote Programming

Here is a code search method you can use if you cannot locate the code for your device:

Step 1: Turn your device on.

Step 2: Hold down the “CODE SEARCH” button until the indicator light turns off, then release it.

Step 3: The VCR, TV, or cable button must be pressed and released. AUX programming is performed first by pressing and releasing the AUX button, then by pressing the type of device you wish to program.

Step 5: To turn off the device, press the “ON/OFF” button repeatedly. The “ON/OFF” button may need to be pressed a few hundred times if your code is near the end of the list.

Step 6: Upon the shutdown of your device, press and release the “ENTER” button.

Step 7: You can test your device by pressing a frequently used button like “PROGRAM UP/DOWN” or “VOLUME UP/DOWN”. You can repeat step 1 through 6 if the device does not respond.

Manual RCA Remote programming Instructions using direct code entry

Step 1: Hold down the “CODE SEARCH” button until the light on the button illuminates, then release it.

Step 2: To turn the device on (VCR, TV, cable, etc. ), press and release the button. AUX programming begins by pressing and releasing the AUX button. After that, press the device type. The indication light will blink once and then remain illuminated.

Step 3: 

Please enter the 3-digit code number. The indicator light turns off when you enter a valid three-digit code.

Step 5: Test by pressing a button (ON/OFF, “PROGRAM UP/DOWN” OR “VOLUME UP/DOWN”). Enter the next code for your brand if your TV doesn’t respond to the previous code.

RCA Universal remote programming using Auto Code Search method

Step 1: The remote must be turned on in order to operate the device.

Step 2: Hold down the “CODE SEARCH” button until the indicator light illuminates, then release.

Step 3: The device key corresponding to the equipment you wish to control with the remote (TV, VCR/DVD, DVD, etc.) should be pressed and released. A blinking icon appears on the screen.

Step 4: Press the ON/OFF key once and point the remote at the device. A few seconds delay separates each code sent by the remote for the specified component. While the remote is being sent, keep the component in focus.

Step 5: In order to store a correct code, the remote must be pressed immediately after the component is turned off. In the event that you don’t press “ENTER” within a few seconds, the remote will send a new code in the list and you will have to begin again from Step 2.

Step 6: You can identify your device code by using Code Retrieval as described below.

How to retrive RCA Remote Codes

Following the steps below will help you determine which code is compatible with your universal remote control if you programmed it using one of the “Code Search” methods. You can save a lot of time if you need to program the remote again by finding the actual code and writing it down.

Step 1: When the “CODE SEARCH” indicator light appears, hold and release the “CODE SEARCH” button.

Step 2: You need to press and release the device key that matches the equipment code you wish to retrieve (TV, VCR/DVD, DBS/CABLE, etc). A blinking signal will appear on the screen.

Step 3: “CODE SEARCH” is pressed and released. This will turn off the indicator light.

Step 4: From 0 to 9, press the number keys until the indicator light blinks.

Step 5: Your first digit of your code is the one that causes your indicator light to blink.

Step 6: You will need to repeat Step 4 as needed until you have retrieved all 3 digits of your code.

The Sleep Function

Only a few models offer the Sleep Function. A time interval between 1 and 99 minutes can be programmed to automatically turn off the TV.

Step 1: Release the “SLEEP” key after holding it for a few seconds. You will see the indicator light remain on.

Step 2: Use the numerical keypad to enter the time in minutes (from 1 minute to 99 minutes). If you are entering a number between 1 and 9, press 0. This will turn off the indicator. Aim the remote towards the television.

Press and hold the SLEEP button until the INDICATOR LIGHT blinks or press the ON/OFF button to cancel (reset to zero) the Sleep timer program.
