Setting the remote control to the correct mode for the equipment will require you to use the mode buttons. The remote control should be programmed to operate the other equipment as specified in the manual. The equipment you want to control can be changed by pressing the button for that item. Three seconds of light indicate that the remote has been set to that mode when you press the mode button.

You can control the receiver using UHF radio signals, infrared signals, or both depending on how the remote is set up. For other equipment, you can only use IR signals. Signals traveling in the infrared range go up to 40 feet, but they cannot pass through solid objects or through walls. You should direct the remote control directly at the equipment you want to operate, and there should be no obstructions in the path of the signal.

You can program your remote control for your TV by following the instructions in this manual. In the following section, we will examine a different way to program a remote control to operate computer equipment (for example, a computer, DVD player, CD player, tuner, amplifier, audio receiver or a second TV). Following either the instructions in Programming Using Equipment Remote Code Tables or Scanning for Equipment Codes is another option for programming the remote control.

Program the remote control in one mode, and then repeat the procedure for the other mode if the remote control is operating combination equipment, such as a TV/DVD or TV/VCR. If you want the remote control to control a TV/DVD player using the code 765, first follow the instructions for programming the remote to operate the TV, and then repeat the same procedure for the DVD. To use the TV functions, put your remote control in TV mode, and to use DVD player (or VCR) functions, put it in DVD mode.
