You can select the correct mode for your equipment by using the mode buttons on the remote control. Ensure that the remote control is configured to control the other equipment as instructed in the manual. Select the equipment you would like to control from the menu. Press the button to change the mode. You can tell when you have set the remote to a specific mode by the way the mode button lights up for three seconds.

You can control the receiver using UHF radio signals, infrared signals, or both depending on how the remote is set up. Other equipment is controlled by IR signals only. A single IR signal can travel up to 40 feet. It cannot penetrate walls or other solid objects because it travels at a short distance, generally 20 feet or 7 meters. Make sure there are no objects blocking the signal path between the remote control and the equipment you want to control.

You can program your remote control for your TV by following the instructions in this manual. In the following section, we will examine a different way to program a remote control to operate computer equipment (for example, a computer, DVD player, CD player, tuner, amplifier, audio receiver or a second TV). Following either the instructions in Programming Using Equipment Remote Code Tables or Scanning for Equipment Codes is another option for programming the remote control.

Program the remote control in one mode, and then repeat the procedure for the other mode if the remote control is operating combination equipment, such as a TV/DVD or TV/VCR. If you want the remote control to control a TV/DVD player using the code 765, first follow the instructions for programming the remote to operate the TV, and then repeat the same procedure for the DVD. To use the TV functions, put your remote control in TV mode, and to use DVD player (or VCR) functions, put it in DVD mode.
